When was the last time you did some REAL fun flying?  Is gear up, flaps up, autopilot on fun flying?  Piloting a World War Two vintage airplane is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences a pilot can have.   Our Second in Command type rating (SIC) syllabus will allow you to experience that first hand.  At the end of the course, you will be hot, sweaty, exhausted, probably oily, and will have a sense of real accomplishment (not to mention a grin that will take weeks to go away.)  You can choose to be a B-25 Mitchell bomber pilot in the South Pacific, or C-47 pilot on D-Day over Normandy.

Our B-25 program consists of 2 to 3 ground school sessions to get you up to speed on systems, performance, and cockpit procedure, and 2 hours at the controls of the B-25.  Pilots will be hands on for all phases of flight including taxi, take off, maneuvering, and landing.   Ideally we like to group 2 to 3 students flying together at a time.  This allows you to opportunity to fly and observe.  However, we gladly accept single students.  We like students to plan on being here 3 days.  Often we complete the syllabus in two days, but we want to allow for weather, or mechanical issues.  If you are flying commercial to DFW we will gladly pick you up and bring you to the hangar.  We can also help with hotel accommodations.  We even feed you while you are here.

We can modify everything to meet the student’s needs:  dates, private instruction, and location.  Check our calendar.  If the plane is going to be at an event close to you, we may be able to work an SIC rating in while we are there.

Since this is flight training FAA regulations prohibit carrying passengers.  Only minimum crew is allowed on board during training.  The only exception is we can carry multiple students (up to 3) with two observing and one flying with the instructor.

Cost:

B-25

SIC Rating cost for the B-25 is $5700.  Additional flying hours are $2850 per hour. If you or someone you know just wants to get an hour of Dual in the B-25, you can buy those for $2850 for each hour. You are required to hold a Multi Engine Land, Instrument Airplane license, and have a current medical.

C-47/DC-3

SIC Rating cost for the C-47/DC-3 is $4500. Additional hourly flight time in the C-47 is $1750 for each hour with instructor.  We also do full type ratings in the C-47. You are required to hold a Multi Engine Land, Instrument Airplane license, and have a current medical.  A tail wheel endorsement is also required, and you should be fairly tail wheel proficient as well.
For those wanting to continue your training in the B-25 or C-47 we offer full PIC type ratings in both airplanes.  Costs for that are based on our hourly rate since skill level will dictate how long it takes an individual to complete the syllabus.  Pilots with radial engine or warbird experience tend to finish faster.  Taking the SIC course will give you an excellent idea of how much more training you may need to earn a type rating.  The type rating does require a check ride with an examiner.

After the course you are invited to come back when we fly to travel to events and participate in our activities.  Those include flying the plane to and from events at no charge to you on a space available basis.
